United Policyholders

United Policyholders (UP) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as a trusted information resource and independent voice for insurance consumers in all 50 states. Founded in 1991 after a devastating urban wildfire, UP was created to help level the playing field between insurers and insureds.

Through programs like Roadmap to Recovery®, Roadmap to Preparedness, and Advocacy and Action, United Policyholders provides practical tools, workshops, and guidance to people navigating insurance claims after disasters, accidents, and other losses—while also working to improve laws and regulations that protect policyholders. UP does not sell insurance or take money from insurance companies; instead, it relies on donations, grants, and a nationwide volunteer network to educate, advocate, and empower consumers to get a fair deal from their insurers.
