Practical Tax Aspects of the Altadena and Pacific Palisades Fires

The D’Andre D Lampkin Foundation is pleased to share an upcoming Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) Taxation Section program, Practical Tax Aspects of the Altadena and Pacific Palisades Fires. This one-hour online briefing will walk fire survivors, advisors, and community partners through key tax issues that arise after a major wildfire, with a focus on practical, real-world guidance.

Wildfire survivors often face confusing and time-sensitive tax questions on top of the emotional and financial stress of rebuilding their lives. This LACBA Taxation Section program addresses common tax issues facing fire victims in a clear and accessible way, with specific attention to the recent Altadena and Pacific Palisades fires.

Participants will learn how insurance payouts, repair reimbursements, and government assistance may be treated for federal and California tax purposes; when and how casualty losses may be claimed; and what planning opportunities and pitfalls can arise as families and businesses decide whether to rebuild, relocate, or sell fire-damaged property.

The presenters will also discuss:
