Stories That Build

Real Stories of Resilience, Service, Leadership, and Community Impact

Every resilient community is shaped by people, relationships, acts of service, and moments of courage that often go unseen. Stories That Build is the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation’s storytelling initiative dedicated to highlighting the people, partnerships, and experiences that strengthen communities from within.

Through stories of resilience, volunteerism, youth leadership, public service, recovery, compassion, and community transformation, the Foundation seeks to document more than programs and events. We seek to preserve the human stories that remind us why this work matters.

Why Stories Matter

Stories help communities remember, learn, heal, and grow. They give meaning to service, dignity to struggle, and visibility to people whose contributions may otherwise go unnoticed.

For the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation, storytelling is part of community resilience. When people share their experiences, they help others feel less alone, inspire action, strengthen trust, and create a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing families, neighborhoods, and communities.

Stories can:

  • honor lived experience
  • highlight community leadership
  • inspire volunteer service
  • elevate youth voices
  • document resilience in action
  • strengthen civic connection
  • preserve community memory
  • show the impact of partnerships and programs

A stronger community is built not only through action, but through the stories that help people understand, remember, and continue the work.

What Stories That Build Means

Stories That Build reflects the belief that every act of service, every partnership, every moment of perseverance, and every effort to strengthen a community contributes to something larger.

These stories may come from volunteers, youth, families, nonprofit partners, civic leaders, educators, public servants, donors, sponsors, and residents who are working to build stronger, more resilient communities together.

Some stories may highlight success. Others may reflect hardship, recovery, loss, hope, or transformation. Together, they help tell the story of a community that continues to build, serve, and move forward.
