Music, Courage, and Community: The Signed Guitar Presentation

🎸 Win a Guitar Signed by Christina Aguilera

On On April 1, 2025, following a moving performance in honor of the heroes of the 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires, Christina Aguilera personally signed this guitar to be presented to personnel of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau. The guitar commemorates a remarkable evening where Christina Aguilera, alongside Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performed a free concert to recognize the bravery and selflessness of first responders who risked their lives battling the devastating wildfires. The event, also featuring special guest performers, was a tribute not only to our frontline heroes but also to the resilience of our Los Angeles community. In a profound gesture of unity and generosity, the musicians of the LA Phil donated their services, and the concert was fully underwritten by visionary supporters including Terri and Jerry Kohl, Jason Subotky and Anne Akiko Meyers, Kaiser Permanente, GRoW Annenberg, and American Express. Composer Gabriela Ortiz captured the spirit of the night, affirming that “music has the power to grant us access to the intangible, healing our wounds and binding us to what can only be expressed through sound.”

More About 999 For Kids

Its name is a reference to a law enforcement radio code: 999.

It means, “Officer needs emergency help.” But, in this case, it’s not a reference to an officer in need. It’s a reference to children in need.

“999 for Kids” was created in 1985 through a joint effort of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the County’s Department of Children and Family Services. The two county agencies began working together after they recognized a need to help physically and mentally challenged children who are medically vulnerable or are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence.

The program raises money to purchase special items and services for these children, including sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes, medically oriented toys and games. The funds send children to summer camps for the deaf, blind, and those with other medical issues who would not otherwise have such positive experiences.

Many deputies and their colleagues in other law enforcement agencies support 999 for Kids on their own time, too, holding fundraising events including an annual team relay swim from Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro.
