The Ontario-based D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation is again offering scholarships to high school students who participate in community-building initiatives and programs.
The foundation has awarded its Social Good Scholarships since 2017 and this year has increased the award amounts. Thanks to the generosity of donors, this year’s grand prize is a $2,000 scholarship, and two honorable mention entries will receive $1,000 scholarships, according to a news release.
Unlike with most scholarships, selection criteria for the Social Good Scholarships are not based solely on academic or athletic abilities. Recipients are chosen based on how they are making positive contributions to their communities and their efforts to make their communities stronger and more resilient, according to the news release.
Applicants are asked to illustrate how they plan to use their chosen field of study to promote civic engagement.
The scholarship is open to students currently enrolled at a U.S. accredited public or private high school. Applicants must be in their junior or senior year, and a minimum 325 grade-point average or equivalent is required.
Applicants must submit a short video (30 seconds to three minutes) explaining how they are making their community stronger and why civic engagement matters.
Applications are accepted through March 27.
