5 Year Anniversary of the Woolsey Fire

Today, we mark the 5-year anniversary of the Woolsey Fire, a devastating wildfire that left an indelible mark on our community and served as a critical moment of reflection. On November 8, 2018, this relentless inferno carved a path of destruction through Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, burning 96,949 acres of precious land, destroying 1,643 structures, and tragically claiming the lives of three individuals. The sheer scale of this disaster prompted the evacuation of more than 295,000 people, leaving our community in shock and aching for recovery.

But amidst the devastation emerged a spirit of resilience and compassion that would shape the future of disaster recovery efforts. The D’Andre D Lampkin Foundation, alongside a dedicated community of volunteers, rallied together to coordinate and organize desperately needed disaster relief supplies. This collective effort was not just about responding to the immediate aftermath of the Woolsey Fire but also about laying a foundation for future emergencies and emphasizing the critical importance of disaster preparedness.

Moved by the spirit of compassion and the urgent need to support impacted individuals, D’Andre Lampkin, the foundation’s founder, joined forces with community leaders to establish the Los Angeles Region Community Recovery Organization (LARCRO). This non-profit, also known as LARCRO, has been instrumental in coordinating disaster recovery resources in affected areas, addressing the recovery needs caused by disasters, and bolstering the resilience of those who have experienced the unimaginable even after the 5 Year Anniversary of the Woolsey Fire

As we commemorate this solemn anniversary, we are reminded not just of the pain and loss that our community endured, but also of the power of unity and preparedness in the face of adversity. Today, we stand together to reflect, but also to emphasize the importance of disaster preparedness in reducing the impact of future disasters.

Here at the D’Andre D Lampkin Foundation, we believe that it is our collective responsibility to learn from past experiences and ensure that we are ready to face the unknown challenges that lie ahead. With this in mind, we are actively engaged in various initiatives to raise awareness about disaster preparedness, whether it’s through educational programs, community events, or partnerships with local emergency response organizations.

We urge you to take a moment today to reflect on the resilience and strength our community demonstrated during the Woolsey Fire, and to consider your own preparedness in the face of a potential disaster. Remember, preparedness is not an individual responsibility alone, but a collective effort that builds stronger, more resilient communities.

Together, we can make a difference. Let us stand united and ensure that we are always ready to face any challenge that comes our way.
