That belief is what now drives one of the most important initiatives in our Foundation’s history:
The Center for Community Resilience
We are proud to announce the launch of our capital campaign to help establish a permanent home for the Center for Community Resilience—a place dedicated to disaster preparedness, community education, and volunteer-driven recovery.
This center is more than a building. It is a long-term investment in the strength, stability, and self-reliance of the communities we serve.
Why This Campaign Matters
Across the United States, communities have faced moments of crisis that tested their strength, resilience, and unity. From the San Francisco earthquake and September 11th, to Hurricane Katrina and the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, recovery has often depended not only on institutions, but on people stepping forward to support one another.
Again and again, we have seen that it is the strength of the community, the willingness to serve, adapt, and rebuild, that determines how recovery takes place.
The Center for Community Resilience is designed to capture those lessons and turn them into action. It will create a space where individuals, families, volunteers, and community leaders can come together to learn, prepare, and respond to the challenges that shape our communities.
What the Center Will Include
The Center for Community Resilience will bring together essential programs and resources under one roof, creating a space where education, service, and community engagement work together to strengthen individuals and neighborhoods.
Planned components of the center include:
- A community meeting room for workshops, trainings, and gatherings
- A podcast studio to share stories, amplify community voices, and highlight resilience in action
- A food pantry to support individuals and families in need
- Resilience and disaster education exhibits highlighting major U.S. disasters and the grassroots efforts that helped communities recover
- An interactive exhibit theater designed to educate, engage, and inspire action
Inspired in part by the way museums and immersive educational spaces can preserve lessons from the past while preparing people for the future, the Center for Community Resilience will serve as both a living classroom and a hub for community service.
A Place Built by the Community, for the Community
This campaign is about more than bricks and mortar. It is about building a place where the spirit of volunteerism, service, and stakeholdership can continue to grow for generations to come.
Throughout history, neighbors, volunteers, and local leaders have carried communities through their most difficult moments. The Center for Community Resilience is designed to honor that legacy while creating new opportunities for education, engagement, and support.
Every contribution to this effort represents more than support for a project. It represents a commitment to stronger, more connected, and more resilient communities.
