Everyone has the power to make a positive impact in our hearts, our lives, and our communities. During this season of thanks, the D’Andre D. 7 million children in the United States suffer from pediatric pulmonology related diseases. As a result, children spend a significant amount of time in the hospital being treated for their illness. Children miss school, family gatherings, and time playing with friends. While the prospect of taking a family photo sounds exciting, imagine a mother and father having to make the difficult decision to take a photo without their little guy or princess because the wheezing is too severe to discharge them from the hospital. Even more disheartening is the inability to afford a family photo because the hospital bills and cost of outpatient care is too overwhelming.

Tonight I am saddened to announce the passing of my dear friend David Stelmach (pictured kneeling in forward). I first met David in 2012 as I struggled to get my non-profit, the Breath Giving Portraits Project, off the ground. I was unsuccessful in my first attempt to raise money and decided to try again by funding everything out of pocket.

Season’s Greetings Friends of The Breath Giving Portraits Project

I hope this holiday season finds you in great health and feelings of joy.  You are receiving this email because 1 year ago you were a financial backer or supporter of the BGP fundraiser at www.kickstarter.com. Unfortunately, in 2011 the project was not successfully funded. Because funding on Kickstarter is all or nothing, all pledges had been automatically canceled.

Children’s Hospital – Breath Giving Portraits

“To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.”
–Henri Cartier-Bresson

Give breath to children who suffer from respiratory disorders.

Working with other photographers, make-up artist, and stylist we will give the families of children suffering with respiratory disorders a moment to catch their breath. This winter we will be visiting our local Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and take pictures of children admitted to the division of Pediatric Pulmonology. The families of these children will be invited to a photo shoot where they will have a group family photo session with professional photographers. These photographers, make-up artist, and stylist come together to donate their skills and give back to the community.
