Commemorating Eid al-Fitr: A Celebration of Community and Unity

For the fourth consecutive year, D’Andre Lampkin had the distinct honor and privilege to serve as a guest speaker at the Dawoodi Bohra Al Masjid Al Jamali Anjuman-e-Qutbi Mosque for their annual Eid commemoration, a gathering enriched by the presence of elected members from our State Assembly and State Senate, alongside esteemed religious leaders from the Jewish, Christian, and Hindu faiths. What I cherish most about this celebration is the spirit of unity it embodies—a moment when community members come together to share stories, offer prayers, and extend support to one another, recognizing that regardless of our diverse backgrounds, we collectively weave the fabric of our region. This event transcends political divides, focusing instead on the power of people and community, revealing authentic care for the constituents, no matter their background. It effectively is an open invitation for all who are less concerned about their public selves, highlighting those who truly value the well-being and unity of the community.

As we gather to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, we come together not just as a religious observance, but as a testament to the vibrant tapestry of community that makes up our beloved city of Ontario. Today, we honor the spirit of unity and the shared values that bind us all, regardless of our individual backgrounds.

For the Muslim community, Eid al-Fitr is a time of joy and celebration, following a month of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and charity. Ramadan has been a period where individuals immerse themselves in spiritual growth, and now, with hearts full of gratitude, we commemorate its conclusion with prayer, feasting, and the giving of charity.

D'Andre Lampkin speaking

Eid is a time when families and friends gather to share meals and exchange gifts, a practice that echoes the essence of togetherness and generosity. It is a reminder of the importance of community, of supporting one another, and lifting each other’s spirits. This spirit is not confined to the Muslim community alone; it is an ethos shared by all of us here in the city of Ontario.

I have always been proud of the fact that the city of Ontario is enriched by the diversity of its residents. Muslims and non-Muslims alike contribute to the progress and well-being of our region. It is through these shared contributions that we work towards a common goal — the prosperity of the city of Ontario. In doing so, we are reminded of the biblical scripture from 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, which encourages us to “mind our own business” and work diligently, urging us to live a quiet and respectable life. This scripture resonates with the values of responsibility and dedication that we all strive to uphold.

Indeed, our business is the well-being of the city of Ontario, and it is in this shared commitment that we find unity. Today, as we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, let us reaffirm our dedication to these principles and continue to support one another in our endeavors. I’d like to think we are all builders of our communities – not just the construction workers bringing developments into fruition. As builders we are reminded, as the biblical scriptures read, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain”. Let us move forward with a unified front, joined in faith, and work together for the prosperity of our community.

As we extend our greetings to one another, let us remember the traditional salutation of Eid, “Eid Mubarak,” which translates to “Blessed Eid.” May this blessing be a reminder of the joy, peace, and prosperity that we wish for one another, not only today but throughout the year.

Thank you, and Eid Mubarak to all.
