D’Andre Lampkin served as keynote speaker at the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation Teen Summit, encouraging hundreds of youth to understand how character, communication, and contribution shape their future.

Hundreds of young people from throughout Los Angeles County gathered at Hacienda Heights for the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation Teen Summit, an event designed to encourage youth leadership, positive decision-making, personal growth, and community connection.

D’Andre D. Lampkin was honored to serve as the keynote speaker for the summit, delivering a message centered on the theme, “Your Choices Shape Your Future.”

The keynote encouraged teens to recognize that their future is not shaped by one single moment, but by the daily choices they make, the habits they build, the people they surround themselves with, and the values they choose to live by.

Lampkin’s message focused on three guiding principles:

Character — understanding who you are, what values guide your decisions, and how integrity is built through everyday choices.

Communication — learning how to present yourself with confidence, respect, and clarity when speaking with mentors, community leaders, law enforcement professionals, employers, and peers.

Contribution — recognizing that leadership begins with service and that every young person has something meaningful to offer their family, school, neighborhood, and community.

Following the keynote address, Lampkin was asked to continue the conversation by leading interactive learning activities with the youth in attendance. The activities gave participants an opportunity to practice introducing themselves, sharing personal goals, identifying positive choices, and thinking about how they can contribute to their communities.

The learning activity reinforced a practical leadership message: young people do not have to wait until adulthood to become leaders. Leadership begins now — in how they communicate, how they treat others, how they make decisions, and how they respond to challenges.

The event also provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships between youth and public service professionals. Through honest conversation and practical exercises, participants were encouraged to see law enforcement officers, mentors, and community leaders as people they can communicate with, learn from, and engage with in constructive ways.

For Lampkin, the opportunity was deeply meaningful.

“Our youth are capable of more than they sometimes realize,” Lampkin said. “When we show up, listen, encourage, and give them practical tools, we help them see that their choices today can become the story they are proud to tell tomorrow.”

The D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation remains committed to building strong, more resilient communities by supporting youth development, mentorship, public service, civic engagement, and leadership opportunities that help young people recognize their potential.

Events like the Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation Teen Summit reflect the importance of investing in youth, creating spaces where they are seen and heard, and reminding them that their future is worth preparing for today.

Closing Message

The choices young people make today matter. With character, communication, and contribution, they can build a future rooted in purpose, leadership, and service.
