The Pacific Palisades community has lost a powerful voice, a dedicated advocate, and a man whose presence helped guide others through one of their most difficult chapters.

Larry Vein, widely recognized for his leadership and commitment in the aftermath of the Palisades Fire, passed away at the age of 60. His loss is deeply felt across the community he so passionately served.

In the wake of the fire, when uncertainty and devastation weighed heavily on residents, Larry emerged as a steady and determined figure. He worked tirelessly to bring people together, ensuring that those impacted were informed, supported, and heard. His efforts helped bridge gaps between residents, organizations, and recovery resources, offering not just coordination but reassurance during a time when many needed it most.

Larry’s work was not about recognition; it was about responsibility. He understood that recovery is not just about rebuilding structures, but about restoring a sense of stability, dignity, and hope. His voice became a source of clarity in moments of confusion, and his leadership helped shape a path forward for countless families navigating loss.

Yet even the strongest voices can carry unseen burdens.

Larry’s passing, the result of suicide, is a sobering reminder that behind leadership and service can exist silent struggles. As we approach May, Mental Health Awareness Month, his story calls us to reflect not only on what he gave to others, but also on how we, as a community, show up for one another.

Mental health does not discriminate. It affects leaders, caregivers, advocates—those who are often the first to step forward in service of others. Larry’s life reminds us that strength and vulnerability can coexist, and that checking in on one another is not just meaningful, it is necessary.

At the Lampkin Foundation, we believe that resilient communities are built not only through action, but through connection. True resilience requires us to recognize when someone may need support, to create space for honest conversations, and to ensure that no one feels they must carry their burdens alone.

Larry Vein’s legacy is one of service, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his community. The best way we can honor that legacy is by continuing the work he believed in: supporting one another, strengthening our communities, and being present for those who may be struggling in silence.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where family, friends, and community members will gather to honor his memory and the impact he made.

We extend our deepest condolences to Larry’s loved ones and to the entire Palisades community. May his legacy continue to inspire service, compassion, and a renewed commitment to caring for one another.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. You are not alone.
