Remembering a Fallen Hero and Embracing the Courage of Those Who Serve

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr., who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Monday, March 17, 2025. Deputy Cuevas was a dedicated officer who put his life on the line to protect and serve the community. His courage and commitment will not be forgotten.

On that fateful day, deputies from the Victorville Station observed a stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road in Victorville. As they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect, Ryan Turner, chose to flee, leading to a high-speed pursuit. During this pursuit, Deputy Cuevas was involved in a traffic collision and, heartbreakingly, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

We also extend our deepest condolences to the female driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision. Though she sustained non-life-threatening injuries, we wish her a swift recovery and offer our support during this difficult time.

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day. Across our nation, hundreds of thousands of brave men and women—police officers, deputy sheriffs, state troopers, and special agents—selflessly place themselves in harm’s way to ensure our safety and security.
